Shop Manager

Our client is a well-known Hastings-based charity that enjoys a lot of support throughout the community. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and dedicated Shop Manager to take responsibility for their Hastings and St Leonards shops on a temporary basis for 3 months.


The ideal Shop Manager will have demonstrable management experience with in retail, possess excellent communication skills as well as the ability to manage and work with a large team. As a Shop Manager you manage the day to day function of the shops, carry out the shop administration tasks efficiently as well as ensuring all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to.

Due to the nature of the role you will be required to hold a full driving licence as well as your own transport.

The ideal Shop Manager will hold the following skills and experiences:

  • Demonstrable retail management experience
  • Experience of achieve sales targets and increasing shop profits
  • Experience of staff management, training and development
  • Be computer literate – with a strong knowledge and understanding of Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Possess excellent communication both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage and work with a large team
  • Be able to rotate stock using correct moving and handling principles

Your duties as a Shop Manager will include:

  • Responsible for the day to day operation of the shops in allocated area, under the guidance of, and working in partnership with the Area Shop and Retail Events Manager, Retail Manager and Retail Team
  • Meeting and exceed sales targets and achieve agreed standards
  • Regularly updating the Area Shop and Retail Events Manager on the shops progress and propose action for improvements to generate extra business and income
  • Initiating agreed sales promotions and other initiatives to increase turnover
  • Providing line management support to the shop volunteers and maximise their full potential
  • Leading and developing the shop volunteers, encouraging effective communication, regular team meetings, setting objectives and help foster a positive team spirit
  • Ensuring a high standard of customer service is provided at all times
  • Maintaining a high standard of merchandising and displays
  • Controlling stock density and stock rotation
  • Completing daily banking procedures in accordance with company’s Finance policies
  • Completing within set time scales all administrative tasks required
  • Ensuring correct compliance with Gift Aid systems and the safe storage of data
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping
  • Acting as main key holder and delegate key holding to volunteers within procedural guidelines
  • Applying Health and Safety regulations and the safe keeping of records, as well as to ensure Fire Equipment is correctly sited and free from obstruction

Salary:

£8.77 per hour

Hours:

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday – Sunday
  • 2 days off per week – 5 day week including Sunday and Bank Holidays on a rota basis
