Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant – Tunbridge Wells

Maternity Cover – 12 Month Fixed Contract – From Mid-October 2018

with the possibility of a permanent position


Our client is an independent coverholder underwriting agency, specialising mainly in Construction Insurance and acting as an agent of Insurance Companies. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant to join them for 12 months from Mid-October 2018 as Maternity Cover.


The successful candidate will report to the Financial Controller and be responsible for the managing of the day to day bookkeeping/reconciliation and providing financial information to management.


As the new Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant you will settle in to the role with a healthy handover period. Although this is a full time position, our client is happy to accommodate flexi working hours.

Your duties as a Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant will include:


  • Management of the accounting area to ensure daily, weekly, monthly and annual tasks are completed accurately and meet relevant deadlines.

  • Ensuring daily banking reconciliation is accurately completed and Insurers and Brokers are paid on time and receive the appropriate reports.

  • Providing appropriate financial management reports and information to enable proper control of company activities.

  • Liaising with the external accountants to ensure prompt and accurate payment and reconciliation of payroll.

  • Ensuring that the accounting area makes full use of all available IT systems in order to provide best and most cost effective financial services.

  • Supporting the Financial Controller in providing appropriate management of all company activities.

  • Liaising with Brokers/Insurers/Banks to solve queries/questions when they arise both over the telephone and in writing.

  • Maintaining the Broker Register and to process new Broker applications.


The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualities:


  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper in a similarly busy office environment, ideally, but not essentially, in Insurance or the Financial Services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be very well-organised and able to work in a clear, structured and tidy manner. Able to prioritise and efficiently manage your workload.
  • Be adaptable and flexible – respond well to new situations and to persevere in seeking a solution, no matter how challenging circumstances may be.
  • Being fluent in French is essential


Salary and reward package: 


  • Salary of £22,000 - £28,000 depending on experience and qualification
  • Holiday allocation 25 days
