Cosmetics Development Technician


Our client is a leading provider of manufacturing, filling and packing services to the health and beauty industries. A vacancy has arisen for a Cosmetics Development Technician to join their busy and hardworking team in St Leonards on Sea.

The ideal Cosmetics Development Technician will have demonstrable experience within a laboratory, be computer literate and possess excellent communication skills. As a Cosmetics Development Technician you will assist with the development of new cosmetic formulations such as shampoos, shower gels, creams and lotions for current and new customers, ensuring compliance with cosmetic regulations and customer requirements. You will provide laboratory support to the Head of Technical in the production and processing of laboratory samples.

The ideal Cosmetics Development Technician will hold the following skills and experiences:

  • Demonstrable experience within a similar role
  • Have a scientific background and possess laboratory experience
  • Be computer literate and have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Possess an excellent eye for detail

Your duties as a Cosmetics Development Technician will include:

  • Manufacturing the products on a small scale and to assist in scale-up process in production
  • Ensuring all paperwork is correctly maintained
  • Receiving, and booking in, all raw material samples delivered to the laboratory and obtain, as required, any missing Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Certificates of Analysis (C of A) and to ensure that once these are received the company’s MSDS library is correctly updated and maintained
  • Maintaining the stock database of raw material samples within the laboratory, ensure that these do not exceed their stated shelf life and ensure that the Head of Technical is notified of any out of date items and these are disposed of in a timely and correct manner
  • Working closely with the Head of Technical to manage the Laboratory Project schedule and ensure that items are delivered on time and in accordance with the original project brief
  • Where required, to attend project meetings relating to the Laboratory Project Schedule and participate fully in the review process
  • Participate in any training and development programmes that the company believes will be of benefit to both him/her and the company. This particularly relates to the Society of Cosmetic Scientists qualification programme
  • Working actively towards attaining the skills required to provide technical development support to the Head of Technical
  • Working in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work legislation and the company’s environmental and ethical policies as well as Good Manufacturing Practice and Good Laboratory Practice
  • Assisting in keeping the Development Laboratories in a good standard of housekeeping
  • At all times to work towards the requirements of his/her personal targets and KPIs
  • Carrying out any reasonable task as directed by the Directors of the Company.

Monday – Friday; 8am – 5.30pm
