Be Ready to Start
A lot of temporary work comes in at short notice. Sometimes we’ll get a call asking for someone to start the next day, or even the same day.
If you’re ready to go — documents sorted, phone on, able to travel — you immediately move to the top of the list.
If you’re not quite ready yet, that’s fine, but the quicker you can be available, the more opportunities you’ll get.
Answer Your Phone (and Call Back Quickly)
It sounds obvious, but it’s one of the biggest reasons people miss out on work.
When a job comes in, we’ll often call a few people straight away. If we can’t reach you, we have to move on quickly.
The candidates who get the most work are usually the ones who pick up, or call back within a few minutes.
Be Reliable Once You’re Placed
This is probably the most important one.
Turning up on time, doing what you say you’ll do, and sticking with the assignment makes a huge difference.
If a client knows you’re reliable, they’ll often ask for you again by name — which means more consistent work without having to keep applying.
Have the Right Attitude
You don’t need to know everything on day one. Most employers are happy to show you what to do.
What they really notice is attitude — being willing to get stuck in, listening, and making an effort.
We regularly see people with no experience get kept on or offered more work simply because they approach things in the right way.
Stay in Touch With Us
If your situation changes — you’re available again, looking for more hours, or finished an assignment — let us know.
The more we know, the easier it is to match you with the right work.
We can’t place you if we don’t know you’re available.
A Final Thought
Getting picked for temp work isn’t about having the perfect CV or years of experience.
In most cases, it comes down to being ready, being reliable, and being easy to work with.
If you can do those things, you’ll already be ahead of a lot of people — and you’ll find that work starts to come to you more regularly.
