Starting any new job can be a little nerve-racking.

Whether it’s your first ever role or you’ve worked for years, it’s completely normal to wonder if you’ve remembered everything.

The good news is that a little preparation goes a long way.

Know Where You’re Going

It sounds obvious, but always check the address before you leave.

Allow yourself a bit of extra time in case of traffic or roadworks. Arriving ten minutes early is always better than rushing through the door late.

Wear the Right Clothing
If the job requires safety boots or specific workwear, make sure you’ve got everything ready the night before.

If you’re unsure what to wear, ask your recruitment consultant. We’d much rather answer the question beforehand than have you worrying on the morning.

Take Anything You’ve Been Asked to Bring
Depending on the role, this might include:

  • Safety boots
  • Hi-vis clothing
  • Your lunch
  • A bottle of water
  • Any paperwork we’ve asked you to bring

Having everything ready the night before makes the morning much less stressful.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions
Nobody expects you to know everything on your first day.

If you’re unsure about something, ask.

Employers would much rather you ask a question than guess and get something wrong.

Make a Good First Impression
Simple things really do matter.

Be polite, introduce yourself, listen carefully and show you’re willing to learn.

A positive first day often leads to more opportunities.

A Final Thought
Everyone remembers their first day in a new job.

With a little preparation, you’ll arrive feeling much more confident and ready to get started.

If you’re looking for temporary work in Hastings, we’re always happy to help you find your next opportunity.
