Temporary doesn’t always mean a couple of days either. We regularly recruit for assignments lasting weeks or months, and some temporary positions ultimately become permanent. There’s never a guarantee that will happen, and I’d always be honest about that, but businesses frequently discover that a good temporary worker is exactly the person they’d like to keep.
There’s also nothing wrong with continuing to look for permanent work while you’re on a temporary assignment. Just keep your recruiter informed. If we know your long-term aim is a permanent position, we can continue looking for suitable opportunities while you’re working.
For some people, temporary work is actually a useful way of discovering what they want next. You may try a different type of role and find you enjoy it far more than expected, or work within an industry you’d never previously considered. Even discovering that something isn’t right for you can be valuable information.
At ASL Recruitment, temporary recruitment is a major part of what we do, and we’ve seen many candidates use temporary assignments as a stepping stone into the next stage of their career. It won’t be right for everybody, but it’s certainly worth considering rather than automatically ruling it out.
Final Thought
A temporary job doesn’t have to be your final destination. Sometimes it’s simply a very useful next step.
